Label Paper Overview

Label paper — also called label face stock or tag paper — is the printable paper layer used for pressure-sensitive labels, wet-glue labels and hang tags. C1S, C2S and metallized grades are selected according to the printing system, adhesive construction, die-cutting, matrix stripping, rewinding and end use. Reference grammages range from 60 gsm for lightweight label applications to 250 gsm for structural hang tags. Converting speed, curl and dimensional stability must be validated with the actual face stock, adhesive, liner and line settings.

Is label paper the same as a finished self-adhesive label material?

Not always. This page covers paper face stock and tag paper. A finished pressure-sensitive construction also includes an adhesive and release liner, which must be selected and confirmed with the converter.

Should I choose C1S or C2S label paper?

C1S is commonly selected when one coated printing face is sufficient, including many label applications. C2S is useful for hang tags or pieces printed on both sides. Confirm the print system, adhesive construction and finishing steps.
